Actually this is more or less than a data presentation tool. It include most of the data about countries in the world. You only have to select few options and you are ready to go!

Draw back is, it is not easy to include custom data.

Good bye google!! (Or at least in the near future )
Creators of the Mathematica had moved to the web technology. Now Wolfram (The person who created mathamatica , the one who got a Ph.D at 15, from Caltech) had releazed theire beta version of search engine.
It is called

Wolfram Alpha !!!

So whats the different between this and all OTHER search engines? This one uses semantic nets and can understand most of questions. (Unlike the index based phrase matching used in google )

Its still developing and still need to fill in some gaps. How ever results are already impressive!

Office 07 in karmik kola

Word 07 in UUU 9.10

Ok here are the steps

1. If you have default Ubuntu installation upgrade the WINE.You need at least 1.1.3 (Just install the extra beta layer on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic kola)
2. Insert the Office CD.
3. Right click the setup file and select run through WINE
4. Your progress bar may hang for few minutes in mid way. But it will continue.
5. Enjoy!!

Some problems you may face.

Ms word and MS excel should work out of the box.
However Excel and Access might need slight tuning. Here is what you need to do

Configuring excel

1. Go to wine >  configure wine window.
2. In the libraries tab select riched20 from drop down list and click add button.
3. Click ok button

Configuring Access

1. Wine > Browse C:
2. c:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office12 and find ACEDAO.DLL
3. Delete the file.
4. Delete following lines from msaccess.exe.manifest

There are times we are stuck with a computer that has only an internet connection and no office package. And we are deparate to create or edit a word document or a power point presentation.
Perhaps you have done everything and saved your document in the USB drive and forgot to bring it. How worse it can be!

As a result of these thing online office packages have emerged.

First in this line is the ‘google docs’
Powered by google it one of the oldest. It provides a user with a complete office package. To create a document just log in to http://docs.google.com/#

Unfortunately at the moment of writing ( 2009-Nov ) google doc doesnt allow you to save in the new Docx ( MS office 2007 ) formats. So ytou are stuck with the older .doc format. Same goes for other applications such as presentation.

A better version is the “zoho” it allows you to save in the newwest file format.

But If you want the ultimate you need to log in to “g.ho.st”  (http://g.ho.st) Its not just a office app. It has a complete computer. A 15GB online storage, Office package and software, even some cool vista like gadgets.
