Some of pitfalls in operating System password hacking

While surfing the net I have seeing following method as a way to escalating privileges under windows. I.e to log into system as a normal user and then gain admin powers. It goes somewhat like this.

Start command prompt

1.      Type “net user” to get a list of users

2.      Type “net user username *   ”

3.      When asked for password provide it

This will only works if you already have admin privileges!! Sometimes this is made even more complex by replacing screen saver by command prompt. But unless you are privileged you want be able to replace files in windows. Methods I showed previously are superior in every aspect and guaranteed to work! J

Next thing to watch out is for encrypted NTFS files. If there are any encrypted files under NTFS you will still need the password to read them.
